AMERICAN ME (1992) This would mark Olmos' first feature as a director. The film chronicles the life of Montoya Santana (Olmos), a Chicano who spends time in and out of Folsom State Prison. It begins during the Zoot Suit Riot's, a topic Olmos had already worked on before. American Me presents a gritty, realistic view of life on both side's of the prison wall, it feels authentic, a dangerous world, one where life is cheap. As a film it doesn't pull any punches when it comes to violence either, it's brutal, honest and real. We watch as Santana builds up a gang around him and establishes himself as someone who deserves to be reckoned with. WALKOUT (2006)The DGA Award nominated, and ALMA award winning HBO film Walkout. "You're talking about an event that really isn't known that well even though it's the largest high-school student demonstration that we've ever had in the United States of America." Edward James Olmos says as he describes his film. Based on the event in 1968 when Paula Crisostomo (Alexa Vega) staged a mass walkout across Los Angeles. As a student, Crisostomo had become tired of being treated unequally, she along with 10,000 students decide to protest about educational conditions and voice their complaints about the anti-Mexican educational bias. The film also stars Michael Pena and Bodie Olmos.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (2004) The story of the rag-tag fleet who escape into unknown space after surviving Cylon genocide. With no where else to turn, the remaining humans set ouy to find the 13th colony, Earth. Voted the 'best show' of 2005 by Time magazine, the re-imagined series continues to raise the bar, not only on sci-fi, but on tevelision as a whole. Produced and developed by Ronald D Moore, the new BSG began as a mini series, but quickly evolved into the iconic series.
